New England has several vacation destinations with gay-friendly inns, hotels and B&Bs that are popular with gay and lesbian travelers.
In Massachusetts, these include Boston’s South End, Provincetown on Cape Cod and Northampton, western Massachusetts. Other favorites include Providence, the capital of Rhode Island, and Ogunquit, the Maine seaside resort. New England has been at the forefront of the debate over same sex marriages. Vermont recognised civil unions for same sex couples in July 2000. Massachusetts legalized gay marriage in 2004. Websites with gay vacation information include www.gayinmaine.com and www.vermontgaytravel.com.
