For overseas visitors, it is sensible to carry some sort of ID. ID is required at many bars and pubs, even for customers who are over 21.
Overseas visitors to the USA should always have proper and comprehensive travel insurance cover. In particular, medical expenses can be high.

As well as widespread, low-cost internet access, wi-fi is also now common in cities and hotels. As elsewhere, coffee shops are a good place to start.
