SAFETY
New England is one of the safest regions of the USA, but the usual common-sense precautions should be taken late at night.

SENIOR CITIZENS
There are discounts for the older traveler. US citizens and residents, who are over 62, can visit historic sites and national parks free of charge. Anyone over 50 can join the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), who offer savings on travel, accommodation, car rental and more. The Elderhostel movement organizes vacations for the older traveler. Ask for a discount, but make sure that you have a proper ID.

SHOPPING
Clothing size measurements vary around the world. Check the chart below for approximate comparisons, but always ‘try before you buy’.

SKIING (see Winter Sports)

SMOKING
Where you are allowed to smoke is heavily regulated in the USA, with smoke-free offices, transport and cinemas. Most restaurants are now also smoke-free. Cigarettes, however, are sold everywhere.

SNOWBOARDING (see Winter Sports)
