Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to the official website of Discover New England (DNE). DNE has a firm commitment to the privacy of our website users. Because visitors to our website are important, we do not capture personal information about them without their permission. We endeavor to collect only the minimum amount of non-personally identifiable information needed to meet the purposes for which the website was created. DNE does not actively market to children, and we never knowingly ask a child under 13 to divulge personal information. This statement applies solely to information collected at www.discovernewengland.org and www.discovernewengland.co.uk. Your use of this site indicates your agreement with the privacy policies outlined below. Please note that this policy may change from time to time, so check this page periodically for changes. This page has been updated July 18, 2018.

Information Automatically Collected and Stored by this Site

Any time you use the DNE websites noted above, our server automatically records information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website. These server logs may include information such as your search request, Internet Protocol address, IP geographic location, browser type, browser language, and the date and time of your request. These IP addresses and domain names are captured (logged) and summarized as part of system administration to monitor the use of the website. We may also monitor a visitor’s movement within our site, as well as review Google data from its interest-based advertising and 3rd-party audience data (such as age, gender, and interests). We use this aggregated information to improve the quality of our website and to evaluate traffic statistics, such as the number of visits to our site, the average time spent on our site, the time of day and days of week at which we see peak traffic, the number of pages viewed and various other site statistics. This information helps us improve the quality of our content and provide a more useful online experience for our visitors. If you have concerns about information gathered by Google, we encourage you to implement Google Analytics’ currently available opt-outs for the Web.

Personally Identifiable Information

“Personally identifiable information” is information about a person that is readily identifiable to that specific individual. It includes, for example, an individual’s name, street address, email address, or phone number. Personally identifiable information will not be collected unless you voluntarily send an email message, fill out and send an online form, or fill out personal information and send in a survey. Your choice not to participate in these activities will not impair your ability to access certain information or obtain a service. Unless specifically protected under state law, any information provided may be inspected by the public or disclosed in a legal proceeding. We will not attempt to match any personally identifiable information that you provide to us with your IP address, unless there are reasonable grounds to believe that doing so would provide information that is relevant and material to an authorized law enforcement criminal investigation.

Cookies

Cookies are files that a website can place on your computer. Our website uses cookies to customize certain options and to make results available for your on-site searches. We also use cookies to track usage trends to understand how people use our website and what content they find of most interest. (Cookies are not used for any other reason on this site.) A cookie is a small file that our site can send to your browser, which may then be stored on your hard drive. This small amount of information does not contain any private information stored on your computer. You may set your Web browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, or to disable cookies altogether. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to view or interact with some websites. DNE does not match information gathered by cookies with personal information you may voluntarily submit to DNE.

Security

Our website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control. DNE uses generally accepted, industry-standard security systems, software, and encryption technologies to protect against unauthorized access to DNE’s servers, equipment, and other components of our online presence. We also use software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Credit card processing information for the DNE Summit is collected via a third-party using an industry-standard security system. DNE makes no assurances beyond that provided by industry-standard security systems. Because this site does not encrypt incoming email, you should not send information that you consider highly sensitive through this website. We use standard security measures to ensure that your personally identifiable information is not lost, misused, altered or unintentionally destroyed. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Information Usage

The information collected by DNE will be used for the purposes on the page in which the form/email request is located. Users who provide information may be added to the DNE regular email list or state-specific email lists unless they specifically request not to be included. The information we collect will not be used to create customer profiles. We will not supplement information collected at our website with data from other sources. We will not share data with third parties. Information is shared with the six New England State Tourism Departments, who are joint directors of DNE, and with DNE contracted European representatives.
